I saw this about 2 years ago and recently I was asked by a friend's kids if I knew any card magic tricks. I told them I'd try and got it right from memory, then repeated it successfully maybe 15 times to their amazement.

💡 "The money was there all the time" .. but you start with a fake "back" that actually obscures the money behind it. Then you release it and it shifts up/down to let the money show through. I'm guessing it works with an elastic holding the fake back in the "reveal" position, and you start with it under tension to obscure the money .. ?

👍🏻 Very slick, but i was hoping for the one where you make your predictive drawing "up-front" .. before they compose what they think is the target. Or is that always done with a secret partner and a pre-arranged image?

Chase Huges and the merry men mix up an ounce of valid observation with a metric tonne of bullshit that can at best be called wild guesses. If you believed it, you'd USE it. You wouldn't need cold reading or setups and tricks when you can just ask questions and get truth from a glance or posture and stump every magician in the world along with the public. "How many dogs have you owned in your life? I'm just going to count, and I'll know." "Have any of them bitten you? Don't tell me. Your reaction already did." "I'll know if you're lying about who your best friend is." Wonder why nobody bases their professional work on this nonsense. Oh wait, they don't want to be laughed off the stage, but minting money reading the true character of celebrities from postures and glances is fine. I mean this takes even less skill than pretending to be a psychic. Of course, I'll be happy to see any research that can attribute any observed expression to reliably be for a specific thought. I'd be thrilled to see you conductdouble-blind experiment and challenge Chase Huges to analyse the behaviour of a stranger and see how many of his guesses are true.

You really just need to take notice of what is around you, helped by know how people are most often going to behave. We always know when you're lied to as a child, we just ignore it today be polite.

I personally think tapping the card in looks more obvious. Anyone watching a magician is usually looking to see how it's done. The first method, a peak underneath is far better.

That rope trick is pretty cool! I'll be honest, I paused the video and started trying to work it out in my head, thought I had an idea so I ran and grabbed 2 usb cords and figured out how to make them look linked.. Then I resumed the video and you pulled the ropes out of the box clean and I was stumped. 😂 Alas I grabbed some actual rope and finally worked it out. I really like the idea of the box not just hiding things but also doing some of the work! Thanks for sharing!

1. i noticed the bear the first time ( i was also familiar with the test before i came here) 2. I imagined an almost vast empty desert with a small forest a little away in the distance, the box was a slightly smaller than medium sized box made of gold, with silver linings on the side and a padlock on the front that was made of medal, and it was sitting somewhere in the middle of a tall black ladder with red insides and silver steps..... so what does all that tell you?

Why he was confident is there in the series itself. He's made several accusations based on wild guesses or just to rattle people and put them off guard. Possibly to distract from the actual query in other instances, but i don't think so here. The behaviour stuff is easier than the mentalism stuff. lol.

In the second drive, he was most likely using some trick to see. That wouldn't work if he really couldn't see. Alternatively, and less likely, he probably needed to be calm to read nuances in the subject's reactions. Kinda hard if he's being shot at. He did try it to some degree and got them far enough and this is probably the skills he did have. Even if he failed, he got much farther - enough to give the viewer hope - before crashing.

With the cold reading, I also thought it would be a kind of pattern interupt or doing the unexpected. Derren Brown describes an incident where he distracted an aggressive person, which made sense, as does this one. I've done it successfully on multiple occasions (once before seeing either of these) with aggressive husbands of domestic abuse victims I was helping. The fellow was on a roll, accusing me of influencing his wife (she'd asked for help) and presumably talking to me as he talked to her. Simply bringing in something that made him stop to think broke his momentum and allowed me to walk out of their home with his wife without any drama (I'm a menopausal woman - getting aggressive wasn't an option). I interpreted it as he didn't know what to make of me, and we walked out before he figured it out. Then I saw Derren's video and was like well, that was what I did...

Not a hypnotist, but about the skepticism... I think it would be easier to make somebody imagine something than make them act this convincingly without massive training (usually said about the more dramatic stuff) The scene with tossing in the sea was pretty weird. Why would he want to toss his friend in the sea? She didn't make it seem like Jane was something else that he'd want to discard. But in the end, I thought it would have been way cooler for Patrick Jane to snap him out of the transce by shouting "Gun" as it enters his peripheral vision. His cop instincts should have kicked in and snapped him out of it. Would have made more sense, I think.

The mistake I think is that the fake picture should have been in the other frame. The frames don't appear to have been turned around (the profile would change - he just tilted it back and forth, and his own leg seemed to be in the way and the sofa on the other to turn 180 deg), so he left with what he came with and the flap didn't transfer? At least I remember spotting this right from the first time I saw it.

The scene where he suggests the location on the phone, I assumed that he knew the location as something that had emotional value for the teenager. Combined with his disturbed/restless state and disrupted routine, he'd feel compelled to visit. Rather like telling a criminal they found the drugs and then following him to them. He doesn't have to go, but enough disturbance/doubt in the mind will create a fairly predictable urge, particularly if stuff he'd normally do is currently off the table (though not guaranteed) Probably wouldn't work for a performance, since neither stakes nor disruption is that high. Disclaimer: I'm not a mentalist. Just a compulsive people watcher. About the cards - I don't play cards but hard to memorise cards he hasn't seen - in the deck or other people's hands.

It doesn't hurt that Simon is charismatic enough to sell his role. lol. The presentation feels dead on, regardless of how they pulled it off. I also love that you recommend learning resources beyond plugging yourself everywhere.
